KeymasterThe United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a federation of seven emirates located in the southeastern corner of the Arabian Peninsula. Established on December 2, 1971, the UAE comprises seven emirates: Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al-Quwain, Fujairah, and Ras Al Khaimah. Abu Dhabi is the capital and the largest emirate by area and population. Dubai is the most populous city known globally for its towering skyscrapers, luxury shopping, and vibrant nightlife.

The UAE has a diverse and multicultural society, with Emiratis making up roughly 11% of the population, while the rest comprises expatriates from all over the world. Arabic is the official language, and Islam is the UAE's official religion. However, the country is known for its tolerance and has large communities of various religious and ethnic groups.
Since the discovery of oil in the region in the late 1950s and early 1960s, the UAE has profoundly transformed from an impoverished area of small desert principalities to a modern state with a high standard of living. The country's economy is predominantly based on oil and gas exports, but it has successfully diversified into tourism, aviation, real estate, and financial services, among other sectors.
Dubai, in particular, has established itself as a global city and business hub of the Middle East. It is also famous for landmarks such as the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world, and the Palm Jumeirah, an artificial archipelago. On the other hand, Abu Dhabi has invested heavily in culture and arts, with institutions like the Louvre Abu Dhabi contributing to its international profile.
The political system of the UAE is a unique mix of traditional monarchic elements and modern governance. A hereditary emir rules each emirate, and together, they form the Federal Supreme Council, the country's highest legislative and executive body. One of the emirs was selected as the president of the UAE, a role that the emir of Abu Dhabi has held since the country's founding.
The UAE is known for its ambitious development projects, including establishing Masdar City, a planned city project in Abu Dhabi that aims to be a hub for clean technology and renewable energy. The country has also made significant investments in space exploration, sent the first Emirati astronaut to the International Space Station, and launched the "Hope" Mars probe.
On the international stage, the UAE is a significant player in regional politics and is a member of the United Nations, the Gulf Cooperation Council, the Arab League, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. It has a reputation for its moderate and mediating approach to foreign affairs and has been involved in humanitarian and peacekeeping missions.
As the UAE continues diversifying its economy and investing in technology and education, it aims to reduce its dependence on oil and gas and prepare for a post-hydrocarbon future. The country is also a popular tourist destination, attracting millions yearly visitors to its luxury resorts, shopping malls, and cultural attractions.
