The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a federation of seven emirates located in the southeastern corner of the Arabian Peninsula. One of the emirs was selected as the president of the UAE, a role that the emir of Abu Dhabi has held since the country's founding.

The UAE is known for its ambitious development projects, including establishing Masdar City, a planned city project in Abu Dhabi that aims to be a hub for clean technology and renewable energy. The country has also made significant investments in space exploration, sent the first Emirati astronaut to the International Space Station, and launched the "Hope" Mars probe.

On the international stage, the UAE is a significant player in regional politics and is a member of the United Nations, the Gulf Cooperation Council, the Arab League, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. It has a reputation for its moderate and mediating approach to foreign affairs and has been involved in humanitarian and peacekeeping missions.
