KeymasterUganda, officially the Republic of Uganda, is a landlocked country in East-Central Africa. It is bordered to the east by Kenya, to the north by South Sudan, to the west by the Democratic Republic of the Congo, to the southwest by Rwanda, and the south by Tanzania. The southern part of the country includes a substantial portion of Lake Victoria, which Uganda shares with Kenya and Tanzania.

The capital city is Kampala, the largest city in the country. The population of Uganda is diverse, with more than 40 different ethnic groups, and it includes substantial communities of Nilotics, Bantu, and other groups. English is the official language, and Swahili is widely spoken as a second language. Luganda and other local languages are commonly used throughout the country. The majority of the population is Christian, with a significant Muslim minority.
Uganda gained independence from British colonial rule on October 9, 1962. Since then, the country has experienced a series of political upheavals, including the military dictatorship of Idi Amin in the 1970s and subsequent conflicts that have led to significant loss of life.
Since 1986, Uganda has been led by President Yoweri Museveni and his National Resistance Movement (NRM). His long tenure in office has been characterized by stability, economic growth, criticisms of authoritarianism, suppression of opposition, and restrictions on civil liberties. Museveni has won several elections, although allegations of irregularities and violence have often marred these.
Uganda's economy is primarily based on agriculture, which employs most of the workforce and accounts for a large part of the country's exports, with coffee being the main export commodity. The government also has significant natural resources, including fertile land, regular rainfall, and mineral deposits such as copper and cobalt. In recent years, oil reserves have been discovered in the Albertine Rift basin, which could substantially impact the economy if successfully developed.
The country is known for its diverse wildlife, including gorillas and chimpanzees, and is a popular destination for eco-tourism and safari adventures. Uganda's environmental attractions include the Rwenzori Mountains, the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, and the Murchison Falls National Park.
Despite its natural resources and tourism potential, Uganda faces numerous challenges, including poverty, corruption, lack of infrastructure, healthcare issues like HIV/AIDS, and a rapidly growing population. The northern region of Uganda has been particularly affected by conflict, including the atrocities committed by the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) led by Joseph Kony.
Uganda is a member of various international organizations, including the United Nations, the Commonwealth of Nations, the African Union, and the East African Community (EAC). The country has contributed troops to peacekeeping missions and has been actively involved in regional efforts to maintain peace and security in the Great Lakes region of Africa.
