Better than a city guide, a group of like-minded people in the same country is the way to go. I've been traveling while working for 9 years now, and this is easier said than done.

One way around this is to join a community (I own one called the Founders Grid which has 300+ members in over 50 countries) whereby you can exchange tips, meet up, and ask relevant questions with people on the ground. There are a few online so I recommend doing some research.

If you ask this to validate a business venture, I'd advise against it. The trouble with guides is that they quickly go out of date, and traveling entrepreneurs travel to new locations often.
